Mississippi River Story Boats

The Mississippi, like all rivers, begins in one spot but then grows as it travels to distant places. The water in its watershed reaches almost half of the United States and affects an enormous number of people as it travels from Minnesota to Louisiana. In order to protect our Nation's greatest river, there must be a way to facilitate a dialogue among the community of people who live in the Mississippi River's watershed. What better way to start than to tell each other our Mississippi River Stories.

The goal of this website is to generate conversation about the river and its watershed, which will inspire more conversation in the future. Dialogue about what it is like to live near a river, what responsibilities we have as an urban society on the river, and how the spatial range of a “river community” can be extended from the Twin Cities into other parts of the river are key components to building understanding and knowledge about our nation’s greatest river.
